Study Description

West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) new Faifley Campus proposal includes St Joseph’s Primary co-located with Edinbarnet Primary; an Education Resource Centre; Auchnacraig and Lennox Early Learning and Childcare Centres; an additional support needs base; a community library and community space. The new £28.86m education campus also have an external state of the art Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) The development will enhance learning for generations of children and young people, forming a major asset to the local community.

Our Approach

Appointed as part of a multi-organisation team, we provided exceptional value supporting the sites planning application through provision of a Transport Statement, Staff Travel Plan and a community Parking Survey. We undertook a School Hands up Survey to understand existing school travel behaviours and undertook a community wide parking evaluation to understand the likely future impact of the new campus on the surrounding community. We worked with the client, through a series of design meetings to develop an access strategy where we explored the ‘art of the possible’ options to manage parking behaviour and ultimately reduce car-based school travel.

Key Successes

• Comprehensive Transport Statement using data from School Hands up Survey data, Headteacher interviews and performance of other similar developments.
• Working as a valued delivery partner within a constrained development site developing innovative measures to managing parking related impacts.
• Working with the design and build contractor to incorporate construction phasing challenges within the Transport Statement and delivery plan.
